Pregnancy After 40: Dangerous or Not?

October 5th, 2011

Pregnancy after 40 has continued to increase. More women are giving births at ages 40 and above. The number may have increased but what we don’t know is the basis of this claim. Is the increment for real according to average or because there are more old women now than before. Whatever the case maybe the increase shows that getting pregnant after 40 is not as dangerous as what others may want us to believe. Or it was really dangerous before but the advance development in medical studies has made it safer for women.

The procedures may have improved a lot but are there any new developments regarding the improvement in woman’s health? What’s the figure of stillbirths and miscarriages? How about physical and mental abnormalities? Until there’s a palpable result that the number of cases is now under control then we can really say that pregnancy after 40 is now a safe choice.

The Britax Roundabout 55 is Best for Toddlers

September 23rd, 2011

I have been using a convertible infant carrier carseat that came with the travel system stroller that we received as a gift. I found it not useful since I realized that babies don’t have to stay in the seat when we go into places such as grocery stores, parks, etc. And I just took her out and carried her using the baby sling. Now, this car seat is about three years old and I no longer have the stroller. But now I’m thinking to buy another one with my new infant. So I searched online to find the most convenient, affordable and safe infant carrier carseat for an infant. I’m looking for the one that allows for reclining. Car seat that you will get a two position harness that easily allows for rear or forward facing positions which will support infant easily. So with the recommendation of everybody, I have now the britax roundabout 55 convertible car seat. And I feel much safer and comfortable with the use of this.

Making a Hospital Bag Checklist

July 30th, 2011

It is important that you have a hospital bag packed and ready before you go into labor, and making a hospital bag checklist can help ensure that you have everything ready when you need it. You should pack the bag by 36 weeks into your pregnancy, and possibly earlier. The bag should have everything that you need for labor, for yourself and for the baby. It can be good to pack three bags so that it is easier to find everything you need.

Pack for labor:

  • Insurance information, medical history and a written copy of the birth plan
  • An old tee shirt to wear during labor
  • Robe, socks and slippers
  • Books and an iPod to help soothe you and pass the time
  • Snacks
  • Scrunchies or headbands to keep the hair out of your face
  • Eyeglasses if you are usually wearing contacts
  • Camera if you want your loved one to document the birth

Pack for after birth:

  • Clothing to wear at the hospital and for when you go home
  • Soap and shampoo
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Hair brush
  • Sanitary pads
  • Breast pads if you plan on breastfeeding
  • Nursing bras, again for breastfeeding

Pack for the baby:

  • Onesies, pajamas and an outfit for going home
  • Receiving blankets
  • Socks or booties
  • A hat
  • Diapers
  • Baby soap and shampoo
  • Bottles and some formula if you will not be breastfeeding
  • Baby car seat

It is best to get the bags packed well in advance so you will not need to worry about it when you need them. Make a copy of this checklist and modify it as you need, or make your own baby checklist. Giving yourself plenty of time to pack your bag before the delivery will give you extra time to then check to make sure everything you need is ready to go. Being prepared can help make your labor and birthing the best experience it can be.

Being a Parent Isn’t Always an Easy Ride

January 23rd, 2011

One of the hardest things for any new father, is the fact that you really start to doubt yourself in the beginning, and even once you start learning about essential things such as the proper rear facing car seats you need to buy, whether cloth diapers or regular ones are better, and a number of other things, you’ll still have your doubts until your baby is born. Even once your child is born, you are going to find that you have all these other fears that you are concerned about, but trust me when I tell you that all of us have instincts inside of us that help us raise our children properly. I found this out probably after the first month when my daughter was born, and it allowed me to make a lot of important decisions. You will also find this gut feeling inside of yourself as well, and even though it can’t be explained, I guarantee you it will be there.

Puj Tub – Only Way to Bathe an Infant

January 15th, 2011

We have been very worried about how to bathe our new baby girl. It is too dangerous, obviously, to put a one month old baby in an adult bath tub. The larger, rigid plastic baths are too big, too, and they are made from hard, rigid plastic, which can be cold and uncomfortable for a small baby. The Puj Tub was a perfect fit for her. The soft foam rubber material that the bath is made from was soft and comfortable to her. There was a little crying, which we naively thought that there would not be. The idea of giving a baby a bath in the bathroom sink was underplayed. It was so much easier to use the bathroom sink, than to either use the bath tub or the kitchen sink, where there would have been a lot of bending involved. Overall, we are more than pleased with our decision to use the Puj Tub baby bath.
